WRITING & COMPOSITION

YOUR ROUTINE

Our personal history helps us understand how much we have grown. Think back to who you were ten years ago. What were your daily habits like? What could you do then that you may or may not be able to do now? Were you a different person in terms of your hobbies, interests, or physical abilities?

Write a short text for your classmates describing what you were like a decade ago. Use the Simple Past Tense, can/could, and to be able to to explain what you were capable of doing and how your life was different. Try to include descriptive vocabulary, time expressions, and at least one idiomatic expression (like back in the day, full of energy, or a walk in the park).

In 5 to 7 sentences, describe who you were ten years ago. Talk about your personality, daily life, skills, and routines using the Simple Past and the verbs can / could / to be able to. Share how you have changed.

Strengths

  • Clear organization of ideas using chronological order (Sunday → Today).
  • Appropriate use of verbs related to daily routine: wake up, go for a run, walk, clean, have breakfast, study.
  • The text stays on topic, includes personal voice, and expresses satisfaction with daily accomplishments.

Areas for Improvement

  • Verb Tense Agreement: Mixing past and present tenses is a common challenge. Work on keeping consistency (e.g., “Today I woke… I walked…”).
  • Spelling Practice: Watch for common verb spelling like studying (present continuous form).
  • Syntax & Word Order: Phrases like “I did do all what I planned” should be simplified to reduce redundancy and increase clarity.

IMPROVED VERSION (further development)

My weekend was very good and peaceful. I did everything I had planned, and on Sunday, I woke up very early and went for a run. I managed to run 10 km on the street while listening to beautiful songs.

Today, I woke up early again. I prayed and drank water, as I usually do.

After that, I walked my dog—his name is Max. Later, I cleaned my house. I did everything I usually do before I go to work.

My breakfast was delicious. I had two eggs, bread, milk with coffee, and fruit. I love papaya!

My day was hard, but I completed everything I had planned. Now I’m studying English.

.

Next Steps

  1. Verb Tense Practice
→ Focus on past simple vs. present simple.
    📝 E.g., I woke up / I wake up.

  2. Common Verbs in Daily Routines
→ Reinforce spelling and conjugation of common verbs.
    📝 Study → Studying | Clean → Cleaned

  3. Prepositions of Time and Place
→ Practice at, on, in + time expressions (e.g., on Sunday, at 7 AM).

  4. Weekly Writing Prompt
→ Write a paragraph every week using five daily activities and three different time prepositions.
